Peppe Pizza

By David McGovern

A great way to have fun when you have friends over that are hungry is making your own pizza. Just be sure to have an adult’s supervision in the kitchen.

MOTH’s Original Peppe Pizza
(A creation by Miss Meow)

Our Peppe Pizza is made almost exclusively out of toppings that begin with the letters …

P-E-P-P-E
Ingredients:

• 1 Ready made pie crust per guest
• Pizza Seasoning or Basil, Marjoram & Oregano
• Bell PEPPErs – Green, Red, Yellow and/or Orange – the more colorful the better
• Zesty Banana PEPPEr Rings
• Mild Jalapeño PEPPEr Rings (only use a few)
• PEPPEroncini
• Sliced PEPPERoni (Turkey pepperoni works well)
• Crushed Red PEPPEr
• Chopped red onion
• 16 oz. Shredded Mozzarella cheese (optional –it’s still good without cheese.)

The great thing with Peppe Pizza is that you don’t need all of the ingredients – try a different variety of PEPPE ingredients on each pizza. Just don’t make it too spicy or you won’t be able to enjoy eating it.

Start with a ready made crust

Apply pizza sauce to the middle of the pie. Using the bottom of a spoon push the sauce out towards the end of the pizza in a circular motion until the entire pizza has a light coating except for a ring around the edge about the width of your finger. You don’t want to get any sauce around the edge (crust) of the pizza because it’ll burn and taste bad.

Next add the toppings.

Some people like their ingredients on top of the cheese (Domino’s Pizza Style) others like the cheese on top of the ingredients (Papa John’s Pizza Style). It depends on how crispy or juicy you want your ingredients. If you don’t like crispy pepperoni, then put it under the cheese.

PEPPE pizza includes a lot of juicy vegetable that taste great roasted, so try the pizza without cheese for a really unique delight.

Tips to making a good pizza:

If you put too much sauce, the ingredients will float on top of the sauce making it very difficult to slice and eat. It could also result in hot sauce splattering on your chin which could burn.

When you spread the cheese make sure to get a good coating on the outer edge of the sauce overlapping a little onto the bare edge of the crust. This helps lock the cheese to the crust so when you bite into a slice the cheese doesn’t slip off the pizza and burn your chin.

It’s not a salad bowl – as much as we all love those vegetable, if you pile the toppings too thick the pizza won’t cook all the way through. If you have three toppings like vegetables, sausage or hamburger sitting on top of each other chances are your pizza is too thick.
