THE CEREAL BOWL BOWL ----------------------> By Loop
| | :: LOOP's Reviews ::LOOP reviews everything cool - from the best movies and comic books of all time to the latest cereal or action figure. You never know what LOOP will review next - except that it'll be something you want.
Saturday Mornings are all about cartoons and a mammoth bowl of sugar-laden cereal! Settle down moms! We believe in having a nutritious breakfast the other six days of the week. But Saturday mornings require a blindingly neon box of fruity, chocolaty, sweet as a candy bar junk food cereals! So this Saturday when you break out a mixing bowl and the TV remote and collapse into the couch in your PJ’s – what will you be eating?
Loop has reviewed four new cereals for your consideration.
I call this The CEREAL BOWL BOWL!
Four cereals compete to be the Saturday Morning Cereal Champion!

But first….
What makes a good Saturday Morning Cereal?
A LOUD BOX – Your Saturday Morning Cereal (SMC) must be dressed in a box that fits the occasion and that means LOUD – colorful and cartoony! The box needs to be able to compete with the action on the TV.
A NON BREAKFAST INGREDIENT – Your SMC must contain some kind of traditionally non-breakfast ingredient – such as chocolate, peanut butter, the old stand-bye - sugar frosting, or the all time classic - marshmallows!
ACTION – Your SMC must do more than just float in the bowl – come on this isn’t Sunday! A Saturday morning cereal needs to snap, crackle, and pop or change the color of the milk, or at least come in bizarre freaky shapes that tear up the roof of your mouth. And NO Alpha-Bits – this isn’t a school day, save those for Monday morning.
So now that we know what a Saturday Morning Cereal is – I’ve reviewed four new contenders fighting for the Saturday Morning accreditation:
OUR CONTESTANTS:

COCOA KRISPIES CHOCONILLA:

Facts:
Manufacturer: Kellogg’s
Value: $0.16 per ounce
Sugar Count: 14 grams per serving
It’s New! Snap, Crackle, and Pop have devised another twist for the Rice Krispies family. But it doesn’t “snap”, “crackle”, or “pop” as loud as regular Rice Krispies, that was disappointing. Also, it doesn’t make chocolate milk like Cocoa Krispies! How can they put “choco” in the name and not make chocolate milk like my regular Cocoa Krispies!? I’m not even sure “vanilla” is a legitimate Saturday Morning Cereal ingredient. Worst of all, no prizes, mail in offers, or games! This box is boring. CHOCONILLA may be great for making rice krispy treats, but it doesn’t make Loop’s Saturday Morning Cereal list.
POP’S CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER:

Facts:
Manufacturer: Kellogg’s
Value: $0.19 per ounce
Sugar Count: 10 grams per serving
It’s New! I Gotta Have My POPS! And chocolate and peanut butter are my favorites! The box is blindingly loud – bright enough to wake you up! This is definitely in the Saturday Morning Cereal category, but it’s not my favorite. There are no games, prizes, or cartoon characters on the box.. Why is Kellogg Brand doing this to me!? Also, POP’s are great! But these don’t taste like POP’s. They taste and look like a more chocolaty version of Reese’s Puff’s.
Pops and Cocoa Krispies are having an identity crisis! Somebody has to tell these guys it is okay to be yourself! Pops and Cocoa Krispies are great Saturday Morning cereals, but these alternative versions aren’t as good.
REESE’S PUFFS:

Facts:
Manufacturer: General Mills
Value: $0.19 per ounce
Sugar Count: 12 grams per serving
Reese’s Puffs is the only cereal in this competition that isn’t new and isn’t trying to be something other than itself. Reese’s makes great chocolate peanut butter cups and they make great chocolate peanut butter cereal. Reese’s isn’t as chocolaty as POP’s but it makes up for it with a creamier peanut butter taste. The box is blazing orange, and although there isn’t any cartoons or games on the box – the box came with a chance to win “back to school cash” from $100 – $1,000 dollars, comes with bonus box tops to benefit your school, and on the side of the box there is a link to a website (millsberry.com) to play games. There’s a lot going on with that box. I’m a little disappointed that the cereal itself doesn’t do anything, no chocolate milk, no noises, no tearing the roof of your mouth – it just tastes great. I guess for a cereal that’s comfortable being itself, it doesn’t do gimmicks.
CAP’N CRUNCH’S CHOCO CRUNCH:

Facts:
Manufacturer: Quaker Oats
Value: $0.14 per ounce
Sugar Count: 10 grams per serving
It’s New! Cap’N Crunch is known for those tasty barrels that tear up the roof of your mouth. And Peanut Butter Cap’N Crunch has been a favorite since I was a little caterpillar! Now the Cap’N brings us a chocolate version of his famous crunchy barrels. And luckily, these don’t seem to tear up my mouth as much as the old classic. Best of all they are CHOCOLATY – like a mouth full of brownies in every bite! Is there such a thing as too chocolaty? The Cap’N has hit the bullseye on every Saturday Morning Cereal requirement! The box is LOUD with cartoons and games and chances to win additional prizes from games on their website (capncrunch.com). This cereal is overloaded with chocolate – I think it has more chocolate than fudge! Definitely a NON-BREAKFAST ingredient! And it has ACTION – this was our only chocolate cereal to make chocolate milk in the bowl! It may be NEW but Cap’N Crunch’s CHOCO CRUNCH has already earned a spot next to my all time favorite classic Saturday Morning Cereals.
CAP’N CRUNCH CHOCO CRUNCH CHOCO-MILK!!!

So who wins the CEREAL BOWL BOWL?

Reese’s Puffs! Why? Sure, I said CHOCO CRUNCH best meets the definition of a Saturday Morning Cereal, but I also said chocolate and peanut butter are my favorite – so when I fill my cereal bowl this Saturday morning it’s going to be Reese’s.
