You Have Two Lives....

By Dan Carber

You have two lives – the one you’re born with, and the one you make for yourself. The decisions you make today, will directly shape your future and will determine whether or not you will be able to live the life you want instead of the one you have.

It’s all too easy to sit back and look at the circumstances of your life and feel powerless to change them. Maybe you feel like you’ll never live where you want because you don’t have the advantages of the kids who have anything they want do. Or, maybe life is harder than you ever imagined and you have to give up things you want in order to survive.

No matter what the situation, it’s important to realize that you can succeed and you can live the life you want. How is this possible? By taking responsibility for your actions. Taking responsibility may not be just admitting to a mistake but acknowledging that you play a part in the outcome in your life.

If you lie, cheat, steal or do some other thing you’re not supposed to do and blame it on someone else, then you are hurting yourself more than you may ever realize. Mistakes are normal, everyone makes them. It’s impossible to get through life without making mistakes. But that is not an excuse you should ever make for yourself.

Take the responsibility and make good decisions the first time. Don’t say “It’s not my fault” and look for sympathy, take a look at how you ended up in the situation you’re in and figure out how you can turn it around and make a better decision in the future.

Now, of course things will happen that are not your fault, and no – it isn’t fair. But the sad truth is that life is not fair, and bad things will happen to good people. That isn’t an excuse, and it would be all too easy to sit back and be upset that things don’t always go your way. That attitude will never help you, and will from being successful.

Now listen, because this is important: You can be a success no matter how little you have to start with. It might take a lot more work for you than for someone else, but you can take control and take the responsibility to be whatever you want.

You have a say in your life, you can decide to succeed or fail. The choice is yours to make. Some of the greatest men who ever lived overcame odds and circumstances that at the time seemed impossible.
